A Song For Julie 12"

Delroy Palmer

Not On Label, UK 1989

"Sometimes life can be so unkind, so unjust..."

This 12" is dedicated to the victims of The Marchioness, which was a boating disaster that killed over 50 people on the River Thames on the evening of August 20th, 1989. A large dredging boat ran over The Marchioness, a small party boat. The subject of this record, Julie, was Julie Hunt died in the chaos. The response to the disaster was mismanaged (understatement), but eventually led to safety reforms on the Thames. There are some pictures of Julie with her mom on Shutterstock. It's all very sad.

I don't know the relationship between Delroy Palmer and Julie Hunt (or any of the other victims). But I think he's done wonderfully to capture the wistful feelings reflected from the tragedy. After writing all this, I don't know how to describe the actual music. But its good. Its really good. This is a truly remarkable record.

The vinyl is graded a solid Very Good Plus, while the sleeve is Very Good. There is some light ringwear and creases noticeable. I will say the sleeve is printed on a fragile type of material, so I don't think I would try to hold out for a sleeve in better condition imo. Images and audio clips are from the copy for sale.
