When I was a younger man, I drove with a friend from somewhere near the Canadian border, MINN to somewhere near Miami FLA. It was of course, March and spring break and we had an old Toyota with almost no miles on it. Until Tennessee everything was a sickly grey dirty snow or an anemic dead grass. After the sun disappeared, I stopped for gas in Chattanooga and the cashier’s accent was already so strong I had to ask her to repeat herself a few times. Maybe three hours later neither of us were in any state to continue so we exited into Atlanta to look for shelter.

Never been to Atlanta and we are immediately lost, driving past hotels on highways with no offramp. Without really noticing it, the traffic ballooned, groups of people walking about, HEAVY bass. We’d ended up on the fringes of Freaknik 2003 completely beat down by the road. It was like stepping into another world, but unfortunately a world without an hotel vacancy. I said we should just sleep in the car, but knew that was a stupid idea before I said it. My friend said he could probably drive for a few hours, sounds fine so I slept. I was woke from an extended BEEEEEEEEEEP, the car’s horn has somehow get stuck and wouldn’t shut off. We pulled off the highway (still in Georgia) and managed to cut the wire leading to the horn. And then drove off into the Florida sunrise.
