Black Bubble Gum 12"

J.o.ë.l

5 To 9 Records, US 1989

"Black Bubble Gum" is the only product of a Virginia group called J.o.ë.l. Maybe J.o.ë.l is just one fella named Joel and does two different voices. Either way, this is a really nice record that I'm not sure how to really classify. Swing-beat? New Jack Swing? Bubblegum?

Either way, both the vocal and instrumental stand on their own merit. I love the snake-y bass-lines, galloping keys, and the black bubble gum imagery. This has sold a handful of times (well, six times) on Discogs over the last 8 years, but I'd say it is still well under-the-radar.

The vinyl is graded as Very Good Plus. The sleeve is Generic. Images and audio clips are from the copy for sale.
