Musical

A & B Music, Barbados 1987

Barbadian group Musical where fronted by singer Claremont McKenna and had a string of local releases until McKenna's sad passing in a beer fire in 1991. The other Musical records are sort of Standard Soca ("soul of calypso") Party music to these ears. Hell, even fifty percent of this twelve-inch could be classified that as well. I should mention their other releases are a dime-a-dozen (figuratively speaking), but this one HAS NOT SOLD ON DISCOGS IN OVER TEN YEARS. That fact deserves to be written in all caps!

The bee side here, "Want Love To Day" is a step in a different direction. McKenna took a decided effort step into the cool waters of modern soul while keeping his other foot in Barbadian traditions (loose bass playing, loose infectious percussion and mellow guitar work). Sorta hard to keep one's balance while straddling these environs without falling on one's face. This baby nails it.

The vinyl is graded as Very Good Plus, but the label has a name, Goupm (?), scratched out somehow. The sleeve is a Jet Star factory Generic. Images and audio clips are from the copy for sale.
