Heartspeak LP

Scott/Thompson

Full Circle Music, US 1984

Heartspeak is the only output of Santa Barbara-based duo Doug Scott and Chas Thompson under the guise of Scott/Thompson. Although, strangely enough, they were also in a group called That Special Feeling (with James Antunez) which provided the backing to the funky Sensation's Lovergirl twelve inch (great instrumental).

Back to this Heartspeak record, it's also really good. Lush and full in sound. It's a nice mesh of digital and non-digital instrumentation. I'd say there is even a subtle Eastern influence, too. You could really drop the needle anywhere on this record and be happy. There isn't a weak moment. My favs are likely The Double Helix and Morning Song, both have the sort of arrangement that really appeals to me. The eponymous track and it's reprise feature some light jazzy keys on top of a pulsing heartbeat.

It's real unusual for these kinds of records to be so fleshed out and well developed. Scott and his pal Thompson deserve a much larger audience for this piece of exceptional work.

The sleeve has a few lighter stains, but otherwise is sturdy and in good shape. The vinyl is a solid Very Good Plus. Images and audio clips are from the copy for sale.
